Thanksgiving is here—the season of gratitude, gatherings, and guilt-free feasting! As we reflect on what we’re grateful for, our thoughts go straight to our pets and the boundless love they give us. And why should they miss out on the holiday flavors? Turns out, dogs love sweet potatoes just as much as we do. So, with a little help from Trish Hall at Your Mom’s Vegan, we’re sharing a tasty, dog-approved and dog-loved sweet potato dog treat recipe that lets them join in the feast!

Sweet potatoes are a silent hero in the world of dog food. Their nutritious value works wonders on eager pups. Sweet potatoes are delicious vessels of fiber, vitamins, minerals, iron, and calcium. They help ease digestion and contribute to healthy growth, strength, and vision with vitamins such as Vitamin A, B6, and C. Without adding any extra seasonings or spices to the sweet potatoes, this festive food provides a healthy option for that special dog. While only 10% of their daily food intake should consist of sweet potato, these dog treats will have the tails wagging and set the Thanksgiving mood!

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium sweet potato
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour or almond flour
  • 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter (unsweetened, no xylitol because it is toxic for dogs)
  • Water (as needed)

Instructions:
The first step is to bake your sweet potato. Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees.

After the oven preheats, poke a few holes in your potato with a fork. Place the sweet potato on a tray lined with foil or parchment paper, and bake it in the oven for about 45-60 minutes.

When the potato is done, mash it into a bowl. Then, in a blender or food processor, blend your oats until it becomes a flour.

In a mixing bowl, combine the oat flour, the mashed sweet potato, the peanut butter and coconut flour. Mix in water as needed to make the batter more smooth.
