Celebratory pupcakes your pup will love

How much do we love our fur babies? Let us count the ways. We love showing our devotion by baking for our pups. Whether it's for a special occasion like Dogust or Valentine’s Day, or any day, making peanut butter banana pupcakes will make their day. Not to worry if you can’t do peanut butter because these pupcakes can be made with any nut butter. You’ll love them because you’ll relish in your dog’s delight as they devour these delicacies!

As always, check with your vet for additional reassurance on ingredients or if your pet is on a special diet.

Gather.

Let’s start by collecting the ingredients (and go organic if you can because our pets deserve the best): apple sauce, banana, peanut butter or nut butter of your choice, shredded carrots, vegetable oil, and honey.  You can peel and shred the carrots yourself or purchase shredded carrots – save yourself the time and effort.

Ingredients list:
  • ¼ cup of apple sauce
  • 1 banana
  • ⅓ cup of peanut butter
  • 1 cup of shredded carrots
  • ⅓ cup of vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup of maple syrup
  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour
  • ⅓ cup of 1-minute oats or regular oats
  • ¼ teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

    Ingredients for pupcakes

    Frosting (Optional)
    • 1/2 cup plain vegan coconut yogurt
    • 1/4 cup unsalted peanut or pet-safe nut butter (many suggest to avoid macadamia, pecans, pistachios, and walnut)
    • 2 tablespoons chickpea flour

    Instructions:
    1. Take out all items and place them on the table
    2. Remember to preheat the oven to 350 degrees and then prepare your cupcake tin by putting the cupcake paper liners inside
    3. Mix your flour, baking soda, and oats in one bowl

    4. Mix your oil, banana, carrots, maple syrup, peanut butter, vanilla, and apple sauce in another bowl separate from the dry foods
    5. Once thoroughly mixed, combine the two bowls into one
    6. Take a spoon to scoop up the mix and fill them ⅔ up in the cupcake liners
    7. Let the cupcakes bake for about 15-20 minutes

The frosting is optional – but delicious. It’s a little extra dab of love on top. After taking the cupcakes out and letting them cool, it’s frosting-time. In a medium bowl, whisk together the vegan yogurt and peanut butter. Add in the chickpea flour, mixing little by little until smooth. Fancy step: transfer the frosting to a piping bag with a star tip and generously frost each cupcake. Express frosting application: you can frost the cupcakes with a butter knife. Crumbled dog treats can be a special garnish (as long as the humans aren’t eating the finished cupcakes)!

These cupcakes are also safe for people to eat providing there are no food allergies to any of the ingredients. Our final tip for this fantastic experience is to remember to remove the paper wrappers from the cupcakes as you serve them to your doggy since we all know they tend to eat everything. We hope you have a great day with your little fur babies!
